A movie adaptation has been in development hell for eons. At one point, Terry Gilliam was attached to direct it, but he left when they wouldn't let him do it the way he wanted (which would have been a 10-12 hour film.)
It was written by Alan Moore, who also wrote the comic The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which became a pretty awful movie starring Sean Connery. So maybe it's a good thing there's not a Watchmen movie in the near future.
I haven't read many of the other books on the list, but a couple of favorites are on there, including Lord of the Flies and Slaughterhouse Five (although I always thought Bluebeard was a better book).
