i'm a busy man...

...so I don't always check my e-mail. Today, I logged into my Yahoo! mail for the first time since early July. I guess I should check it more often.

Don't speak until at least 9:30 a.m.

So my wife wakes me up at 7:30 this morning to ask if I put out the trash. Normally I put the cans out on Tuesday night before coming in to the house, but that night I forgot. Turns out, the garbage truck was pulling into the driveway between our house and the neighbors, so I had to get it out to the end of the drive -- otherwise, we have to deal with full trash cans for a week.

So I jump out of bed, throw on shorts, a shirt and some shoes so fast I don't really remember doing it, and run outside. I was only technically awake at that point, so about the only thing I could do to get their attention when I got outside was hold my hand up in the air like I had a question. Thankfully, they saw me and stopped to get the cans.

As I'm walking toward the truck with the cans, one of the garbage men meets me halfway and says something to the effect of "Sorry. We're a little early this morning, because I have to be at a funeral most of the afternoon."

He said it with a smile on his face, which kind of threw my sleep-numbed brain. So instead of saying something polite like "Sorry to hear that," I mumbled the first thing that came from the bowels of sleep deprivation.

"Uh...that sucks."

From now on, I think it'll be a lot easier to remember to put the trash out Tuesday night. It'll keep me from running through the house basically blind and deaf to everything around me, and it'll save me from looking like a buffoon.

Friggin' sweet

This was circulating around the office today. Be sure to check out the TV and radio spots.

I can't believe I didn't know about this until today...

check this out

I used to watch wrestling back in the late nineties. It started when the student union on campus put a big huge screen in the courtyard outside my dorm and played WCW Monday Nitro one night. I got hooked and watched for a couple of years, then lost interest sometime after ECW went under. Same old crap over and over.

So this weekend I'm flipping channels and see that Spike TV now has NWA-TNA wrestling on Saturday nights. The commercial looked cool, and my brother had gone on and on about it being good. When someone who orders tapes of barbed wire wrestling matches from Japan thinks something is worth watching, you want to check it out. So I TiVo'd it and watched it.

Long story short: I saw the coolest wrestling move I've ever seen in my life.

Looks painful, doesn't it?

Football Friday pictures

I decided to take my camera to work with me this past Football Friday. I'm only getting around to uploading them today because my weekend's been busy.

This is the new Sonic that opened in Hazel Green. It's right on my way to work, so on Fridays I sometimes stop there and pick up a cherry limeade.

A look at our newsroom volunteers. Judy, Terri, Olly, Lori and Shannon (our only volunteer whose name didn't end with an "e") came in and took scores for the show. Volunteers are a big part of getting that show on the air.

Amy and Jerry do about four minutes of news on Friday nights. The rest of the show is football. But that doesn't mean they're not working; Jerry gets all the high school scores from Tennessee counties in our viewing area, and when you see a final score flash across the screen, Amy's putting them in from the newsroom. By the way, you can't enlarge this pircture because if you could, you would see Amy has a mouthful of cake.

Here's the guy who makes it all happen, before the show.

Looks like Barry broke his highlights. Is Marks really the person he should be relying on?

Here's the view from my seat in the booth during the show; on the left, Dan's doing weather. I use the monitor on the right to talk to people who are getting ready for live shots. By the way, Tom Woodard says hi.

And here's John after the show, getting ready to tape sports for the Saturday morning show. By the way, that TV's excellent for playing video games.
