19 producer

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

It's been a while since I posted, so I felt obligated to put something up. To tell the truth, I've actually written a couple of things, but they sucked so bad I was embarrassed to publish them. I'm actually considering putting up a secondary blog with all my "b-side" posts.

There's actually been a lot of stuff going on lately at work. If you read the Huntsville paper, you may have seen the article on Sunday about WHNT's management changes. I'm not going to get into it other than to say it was kind of a crazy week...although we've been down producers for so long, pretty much every week's crazy for me.

But last week was a good one -- my car died on me Wednesday night, and the garage didn't bother to pick it up until Friday morning. I was going to call them Friday morning and throw an unholy fit, but my dad had driven by that afternoon and asked why it wasn't there, and he beat me to it. Now, $250 later, I can finally listen to my CDs again, and take my dad's pickup back to his place.

But the week ended well. We took my daughter Riley to Tate Farms for a birthday party, and we had a great time. If you've never been and have kids, I highly recommend it. Not only is there a lot for them to do, but it will tire your child out so they don't mind going to bed.

I also learned how to hook my TiVo up so I can play the music off of my computer and dump recordings onto my machine in the home office.

And to top it all off, I got 11 hours of sleep Saturday night, and 10 hours of sleep last night. That's opposed to my usual six or seven. And it was awesome.

On another note, the Powerball jackpot's at an all-time high of $340 million. I have a wallet full of money to buy people lottery tickets before the drawing Wednesday.

Watchmen makes Time magazine's list of top 100 novels since 1923.

The only comic book to make the list. If you're scoffing, try reading it first.

Some trivia about Watchmen:

A movie adaptation has been in development hell for eons. At one point, Terry Gilliam was attached to direct it, but he left when they wouldn't let him do it the way he wanted (which would have been a 10-12 hour film.)

It was written by Alan Moore, who also wrote the comic The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which became a pretty awful movie starring Sean Connery. So maybe it's a good thing there's not a Watchmen movie in the near future.

I haven't read many of the other books on the list, but a couple of favorites are on there, including Lord of the Flies and Slaughterhouse Five (although I always thought Bluebeard was a better book).
