Casiun food

Have you ever noticed that people who run the Cajun fast food places in the mall are all Asian? It's kind of weird. Cajun people are French Canadian I believe, but I never see an actual Cajun person -- much less anyone speaking French -- running one of those places.

But that's not really what I was getting at. This weekend I had to work, so I decided I was going to eat out. I used to love eating at the Cajun place in Parkway Place mall, but a while back I ate there and got sick. I haven't been back since, but I thought what the hell, Saturday night might be the night.

So I went to the mall, and I was walking toward the Cajun place. There were three people standing behind the counter with their hands propped up on the counter, and the lady who accosts people with free samples was standing in front of the counter with her arms folded across her chest. The imposing look I got from all four as I walked near (I didn't look, but I could feel it), coupled with the fear of getting sick again, led me to walk right past and to the Chinese place. I was really craving some steamed rice.

I ended up getting sesame chicken at the Chinese place, along with steamed rice and an egg roll. I went back to the station, sat down and started eating while I produced the 10 p.m. news.

About halfway through, I started feeling sick again. So I pitched my sesame chicken in the trash after I ate all the rice. I think it's not just the Cajun place's chicken, but any of that sweet, breaded chicken those places serve. It's kind of weird, because I used to love that stuff. And I still love going to eat Chinese, but I think from now on, I'm going to stick to the stuff that isn't breaded.
